Today our trip odometer flipped over to 4,000 miles! We stopped in the middle of a downhill to capture the moment on film :)

We had a great morning. We were able to sleep in and get a late start in order to avoid the morning commuters on Pacheco Pass. We had an awesome breakfast thanks to Jim & Kathy (Irish steel oats with raisins, honey, brown sugar, and walnuts).

The beginning of the ride was a nice descent downhill. We took our first stop in Los Banos. We went to the grocery store and were congratulated by two different people. They had both seen us biking earlier in the day and thought we had made great progress. Now that we are nearing the end of our trip, our faces must be showing expressions of accomplishment.

We kept biking until we reached Watsonville. Once there, we went to the public library to use the internet. While Emily was outside waiting for a phone call, a local man came up to her to interview her for the newspaper. The ironic thing is that she was waiting for phone call from the Tallahassee Democrat newspaper. Now we will be in at least 2 more newspapers! Our little trip is turning out to garner a lot more attention than we ever imagined!

We ate lunch at a cafe near the library and then hit the road again. We wanted to spend the night at Sunset State Beach, but saw a "Campground Full" sign near the entrance. We thought we'd inquire anyway. It's a good thing that we checked because they have a special hike/bike section reserved for non-vehicle users. We paid just $5/person. We shared the hike/bike area with another couple (Canadians biking from Los Angeles to San Francisco).

We tried to watch the sunset over the each (seems appropriate when staying at Sunset Beach), but too many clouds made for a rather unspectacular show.
