As mentioned in the previous post, the Silver Comet Trail begins in Smyrna, GA. How convenient that Rebekah's aunt's house is also in Smyrna! We just had to bike 3 miles to meet up with the trail. Originally, we thought that we would bike to Rockmart, GA (about 39 miles). After spending the night there, we had planned to veer north and head to Tennessee via the Chattanooga area. However, after looking at some topographical maps, we opted to skip that route and head west through Alabama. This new route allowed us to spend more time on the Silver Comet Trail and the Chief Ladiga Trail.

Today was a special day because we received a free homecooked lunch from a lovely couple, Bill & Aimee. Bill is a lover of the crazyguyonabike.com web site. While browsing through some blogs, he found Gary & Carol's (the couple on the tandem that we met on our way to St. George Island). He clicked on a link to our web site that Gary & Carol had posted. When he saw our itinerary page, he saw that we would be going from Atlanta to Rockmart. The most obvious route is the Silver Comet Trail which he and his wife live very close to. So Bill sent an e-mail to Rebekah offering to cook breakfast or lunch. We took them up on the invitation and enjoyed a filling lunch of bean burritos, chips and salsa, and pecan pie muffins! We are so appreciative of all of the people helping us along our journey...especially random strangers. Thanks again Bill & Aimee for the delicious food, warm hospitality, and encouragement!

After leaving Bill & Aimee's house, we continued on the Silver Comet Trail until it ended at the state line. We immediately got on the Chief Ladiga Trail (they are connected) and pedaled for 7 more miles. We arrived at the Chief Ladiga Campground, bringing our day's total to 70 miles. This campground is brand new and quite undiscovered as of yet. The setting is gorgeous with a little river running through and small mountains in the backdrop.
