We ate our free continental breakfast at the hotel (cereal, bagels, bananas, Little Debbie snacks, orange juice), packed up, and left Fredericktown. Our goal was to bike to Ellington, MO to stay with another WarmShowers.org host, but we were a bit worried about making it there since it was more than 60 miles and very hilly terrain (in the foothills of the Ozark mountains). I am happy to report that we made it! It definitely was a struggle up those steep hills with so much weight on our bikes. Knowing that we had a place to sleep inside made it a little easier to push ourselves to the end. When we finally made it to Ellington, we met our host, Herman. He is a 74-year-old man who moved to America from Germany when he was 28 years old. He hasn't been back to Germany since then. He welcomed us into his home and even prepared dinner for us: boiled potatoes, veggies, salad, and diet soda. We loved playing with his little puppy, Lucky. We were so exhausted that we were all in bed by 9pm.
