Day 38: Bumming Around Kansas
Posted by the girls on Wednesday, May 11, 2011
Today was our day off (after 7 days-in-a-row of hilly Missouri). We allowed our legs to rest a bit, but still had to run a lot of errands. We spent a good chunk of time using the internet at the public library. We also did three loads of laundry, went to the post office, bought supplies, and went grocery shopping. Our favorite part of the day was lunch. We stopped at a little local place called Sweet Green Soup & Salad Bar. If you ever find yourself in Pittsburg (the one in Kansas), make sure you check this place out. For $7.99 you can eat all the soup, salad, and desserts you want. Did we mention that all the soups and desserts are homemade? Mmmmmmmm!!!
Our least favorite part of the day was going to the bike shop. We know that we will not be going through any big cities for a long while, which means no bike shops. With that in mind, we wanted to make sure our bikes were in good running order. We all got some bad news. Rebekah and Michelle both needed new chains (Michelle also needed a new cassette) and Emily's chain is only a couple hundred miles away from being replaced. Rebekah also found out that she has multiple cracks in her rear rim around the spoke eyelets, so that will need to be replaced as soon as possible. So a few hours and a couple hundred dollars later, we left the bike shop feeling defeated. Hopefully these mechanical investments will hold us over 'til the next bike shop in Pueblo, Colorado!
