We enjoyed our night stay at General Coffee, though a bit cold after the storm. We started the day off thinking the ride would be about 50 miles to Abbeville. The day went along rather uneventfully. Despite our original figures of 50 miles, it was more like 60 when we pulled into Abbeville, GA at 4:30pm. The town seemed pretty small and the we didn't have anywhere planned for our night's stay. There were no hotels or camp grounds in sight, or even a supermarket, so we stopped into the Library for some direction. There wasn't a soul in the place, just 3 silver haired women "working" in the office. They told us, "There ain't no hotel honey!" The next town was Hawkinsville, 24 miles away. We contemplated what to do while eating some chocolate, and decided to keep going. We rolled into Hawkinsville at about 7pm, 84 miles in all, and more tired than ever. We thought we deserved our first night's stay in a hotel and our first meal out. We ate a whole bunch of Chinese food, ice cream for dessert, and then slept tight in real beds.
