Day 40: Eureka! We Found It!

We woke up at Knight's Inn in Chanute and thoroughly took advantage of the continental breakfast. This one was the best so far since you could make your own waffles! It also had the usual cereal, bagels, milk, coffee, juice, etc. After eating, we had to head across the street to the campground where our tents had been pitched. They were still soaking wet and the sun was not shining. We opted to pack them away wet; waiting would be futile. We just had to hope that there would be sun later in the day when we unpacked them at our next destination.
Seeing that we are in Kansas, today was pretty uneventful. We saw a lot of farms, fields, a few rivers/creeks, not so many houses, felt some wind, and met some friendly faces. We biked about 63 miles to reach Eureka, KS. Despite being a small town, there seems to be a lot going on around here
We first stopped at Dollar General to buy some trail mix supplies, where we met some cute old ladies. They saw us bike by in the distance and were talking about us. Later, one of the women said that she wanted to tell us something "funny." This "funny" story was that when she first saw us, she thought we were a father, mother, and child. Not exactly a knee-slapper, but I'm glad we gave her a giggle.
After stocking up on goodies, we biked over to the school to see if we could use their showers. On the way there though, Michelle got her 3rd flat tire of the trip. Thankfully, it happened at the end of our ride and not during the middle. The principal allowed us to use the showers at 4pm. While we waited, Michelle fixed her flat tire (all by herself).
We then biked over to the city park where we were able to camp for free. We lucked out; the sun was shining and quickly dried out all of our wet gear in no time. We had Mexican food again at a restaurant called La Hacienda; always a great way to end the day!
