Today we knew we would have pretty favorable winds, though strong, and we wanted to make it all the way to Scott City, 94 miles away. We knew it would be a pretty big feat, especially after a 93-mile ride yesterday and quite a few difficult days before that, but figured we'd take the following day off if we made it. The ride started off at Don and Donna's house, in the middle of nowhere with only sand and gravel roads. We had to ride 10 miles on sand (not easy at all) to start the day. When we finally made it onto actual roads, it was pretty smooth sailing. We were only about 12 miles from Scott City when Rebekah got a flat tire from a tumbleweed thorn. We saw a lot of those today! She patched up the tube, and we started off again only for her tire to go flat about a mile down the road. The patch didn't hold. So, we went ahead and changed the tube completely and made it into town. There is an athletic club here in town that allows cyclists to sleep on their floor and use their showers etc. so we stayed there for the night. We had dinner at a diner up the rode, had ice cream at Dairy Queen, and stopped by a few shops before we retired for the night. And, to be honest, we knew we were so close to reaching 100 miles, a century ride, so we looped around the neighborhood a few times to get in those last couple miles. And we made it!! 100 miles in a day; not a huge deal for most cyclists, but big for us.
