Day 5: Takin' it Easy
Posted by the girls on Sunday, April 10, 2011
Since we had such good mileage the day before, we only had about 18 miles to do before our next campground. So after our restful sleep and leftover Chinese for breakfast, we headed to Twin Oaks RV Park, just southwest of Perry, GA. It was a hilly ride but we pulled into the campsite at noon. Twin Oaks was one of the nicest places we have stayed, with a lounge and board games, big TV and a hot tub that we put to good use. We spent the rest of the day sunbathing, reading and eating ice cream. That night while we were lounging, we checked out a brochure for 6 Flags in Atlanta, which we were planning to visit on the 12th. We discovered that the park would be closed that day, only open on weekends. We had already purchased open-ended tickets that were non-refundable. So our choice was either lose $110 or get to Atlanta by Sunday (153 miles in 2 days). We chose the latter, as we were already excited for our day at the amusement park. We re-routed our ride and got ready to rest up before our long day. However, it wasn't easy to fall asleep early. We had an unwanted visitor outside of our tent who wanted to join us for the evening. After we threatened to get the owner, we heard the perpetrator's footsteps as he ran off. We were true to our word and went to visit the owner. Even though it was after 11pm, he helped sort out the problem.
