After getting way too comfortable, we finally left Sara's house. We had to navigate through Northern Arizona University campus and downtown Flagstaff to get onto Hwy. 180. Once we were on it though, we only had to make one more turn the entire day.

The first 20 miles of our ride were uphill, but not too steep. We climbed up to about 8,100 ft and then started our descent down to 6,000 ft. It took us about 56 miles to reach our destination: Flintstones Bedrock City in Valle, AZ. This park was built in 1972 and probably has not been renovated since then. However, that only adds to its uniqueness. For $5 each, we were able to wander around the park which is full of huge statues of Flintstones characters, a dinosaur slide, a mini goat farm, a theater, and other random quirkiness.

After looking around, we ate in Fred's Diner, which probably had the cheapest food we've encountered thus far. Burgers were $2.95 and shakes were $1.20. Our waitress, Charlie, was really sweet, too. We learned a lot about the origins and possible future of Bedrock City from her.

We camped right at Flintstones Bedrock City for just $12. They had hot showers for $1 and they were totally worth it. After cleaning up and eating, we decided to sneak across the street to use Grand Canyon Inn's outdoor heated pool. It was a bit chilly getting out of the water, but Emily and Michelle enjoyed the refreshing dip.

We look forward to making it to the Grand Canyon tomorrow. It should only be about a 30-mile ride from here. First, we plan to stop in Tusayan to see an IMAX movie about the canyon.
