This morning we took our time and had a wonderful breakfast supplied by good ol' Lucy. Then we all drove up to Zion National Park to spend the day. Lucy began her volunteering at 1pm, so there was some time for her to show us around a little bit. She took us up the canyon ridge on the east side of the park in her car. We had an amazing overlook of the canyon and she also took us on a short walk where we saw some petroglyphs etched into the rock and a view of the Checkerboard Mesa.

We took the road back down to the visitor center area where Lucy had to volunteer. After we left Lucy, we headed to the shuttle bus area when we heard, "Hey! Biker girls!" On the bus were Jason, Margie, and their kids, the family that picked Michelle up 4 days before when she couldn't ride because of her blisters. We rode the bus with them for a few stops and chatted. What a coincidence!

We took the shuttle to the north end of the park and did the short river walk. It was a beautiful day with beautiful views. A few bus stops down, we did another walk to Weeping Rock, where we actually ran into the family again! We had all wanted to do one of the bigger hikes, but were feeling rather lethargic, so we opted for the easier ones this time.

Lucy had to volunteer until 6pm and since we all seemed to be low on energy, we took the shuttle bus into Springdale, the town just outside the entrance of the park. We spent the time browsing at the bookstore and eating frozen yogurt before it was time to head back to Hurricane. We had a fabulous day at Zion and were really glad that it worked out that we could make it there. It would have been a shame to have been so close and not have gone.
