Day 80: Hoover Dam and Night Life
Posted by the girls on Friday, June 24, 2011
We woke up early to make our tour to the Hoover Dam.Unfortunately, we didn't get the pick-up time right and missed the van. They were nice enough to loop back around and get us though, so we made it after all. The bus took about 45 minutes to the dam, but we had a few stops before our tour of the actual dam. We got a really good view of the dam from the bypass bridge, half of which was in Nevada and half of which was in Arizona. Once at the dam, we watched a video about its history and then took an elevator down into the structure. The thing was massive!
Our bus left the Hoover Dam just after midday and we were back in Vegas by 2pm. The tour was worth the half-price cost, even though the driver was super annoying. The jokes were hard to stand. Back at the hotel, we lounged around for a little while before Emily and MIchelle went downstairs to the casino to try our hand at the slot machines. Of course it ended in a loss, but still fun. Then they rode the bus to a nearby hostel to get us on their guest list that evening to the Pure night club in Caesar's Palace. They also made a short detour to peek into the infamous "A Little White Wedding Chapel." They thought about getting hitched, but figured maybe it wasn't the right time; their families wouldn't appreciate not being invited. All the while, Rebekah took an excursion to Ross to browse and then we met back at the hotel.
We took our time getting ready for the evening: our big night out in Las Vegas. We were meant to meet the group from the hostel at Caesar's Palace around 10 or 11pm so we looked around the strip, ate some dinner at Chipotle, and had a few drinks at a street bar. While we were still on our first drink, Rebekah started feeling ill and didn't think she would be able to make it out. Unfortunately, she had to take the bus back to the hotel before we made it into the club. Michelle and Emily waited a bit longer and met up with the group at Pure.
We were on the VIP list so we got to walk right in...no line! As soon as they walked into Pure, Emily and Michelle looked at each other with wide eyes. This was the fanciest club either of them had been to. All the girls were dressed in mini dresses and high heels and many of the guys were even wearing suit jackets. With our limited packing space, we each had brought only one dress and flip-flops. We felt a bit under-dressed. We sucked it up and continued our self-guided tour of the club. We made our way to the top floor which was open to the street with a great view of the Las Vegas night sky, neon lights, and spent most of the night there.
Michelle and Emily met some fun people and ended up staying out until almost 5am. The night ended up being a bit messy, with Emily taking a short nap in the grass and Michelle finally dragging her back to the hotel. The night was true Vegas style.
