Day 83: Groovefest
Posted by the girls on Saturday, June 25, 2011
We woke up around 7am and enjoyed some old-fashioned oats with blueberries, nuts, and maple syrup with Lucy. We were a bit sad that the day finally came when we'd have to leave Lucy. She has been so wonderful to us and is such an amazing person. We really wish we could've spent more time together.
After breakfast, we started loading up Lucy's car. We had to run a shuttle to a nearby town called New Harmony. The only way to Cedar City was to go on I-15. Not only is I-15 an interstate, but it's also under construction. We could have biked it, but it would have been dangerous for us and all of the other drivers.
Lucy first took Rebekah, Michelle, and their bikes and dropped them off at a convenience store near New Harmony. Then Lucy went back to get Emily and her bike. Once we were all reunited at the gas station, it was time to bike after resting for 5 days! The best part was that Lucy joined us! The ride to Cedar City was only about 15 miles, but it was hot out. Lucy turned around to head back to her car after about 12 miles. We hope to see her again in the near future!!
When we got to Cedar City, we first stopped at Wal-Green's so Rebekah could pick up her prescription. Next, we went to the post office to pick up some Adventure Cycling maps we had shipped there. As we were heading to our CouchSurfer's house, Michelle's back tire blew up. Similar to Rebekah, both her tire and tube exploded. Luckily, she didn't fall or get hurt. We used one of Emily's spare tires (since she hasn't had to use either of them yet) and got Michelle rolling again.
Our CouchSurfer, Rodney, showed us around his house and gave us some time to shower before we all headed over to the Cedar City Groovefest. This little festival features bluegrass music and also has arts & crafts vendors. We all ate some delicious food: veggie pizza, navajo tacos, deep-fried snickers, and homemade chocolate chip cookie ice cream sandwiches! After eating, we sat on the plush grass and enjoyed listening to a band called Shotgun Party from Austin, Texas.
We walked back toward Rodney's house and stopped at a bike shop along the way. We relaxed for a bit and then were ready to eat again. Rodney made some delicious vegetarian chili, which we all thoroughly enjoyed!
