Today we woke up, ready to go, even though Emily was still feeling a bit under the weather. We weren't able to eat oatmeal because our fuel bottle was leaking and not working properly. Instead we ate some other odds n' ends we had around.

As soon as we got on the road, Michelle realized her front tire was flat. We did a fairly quick repair, but could already feel the heat of the day encroaching in on us.

The beginning of the ride was really flat and fairly enjoyable (considering that Emily was sick and Michelle's bike is still not in working order). The end of the ride, however, had a few hills. They weren't really that big, but the wind was against us, the sun was beaming down on us, and our spirits may have been a bit lower than usual. We all got a giggle though when Emily told us her mom called and wished her a happy birthday. We figured she meant, "Happy 4th of July," but she meant, "Happy Birthday, America!"

We were happy to finally reach Carson City after 65 hot miles. Michelle felt good to have biked the whole way today, despite a wonky bike. We pretty easily found our CouchSurfer, Mike's, house. He warmly greeted us, but had to quickly run off to work. We showered and relaxed while he was away.

When he came back from work, we watched the Nathan's Hotdog Eating Contest on ESPN and had a good laugh! Then it was time to hit up the grocery store for some goodies for our evening's BBQ. Mike made some great burgers with Gorgonzola cheese inside and a green salad on the side. His friend, Johnson, came over to join us for the evening's festivities.

After dinner, we drove to a nearby spot to watch Carson's firework display. It was a fantastic view with the mountains and the moon in the background. Next, we headed over to Johnson's apartment for a few drinks and some conversation. As usual, we called it a rather early night though, since we are used to going to bed early and because Mike was on-call for his job.
